Glen Josselsohn Autobiography

“I always wanted to do something artistic, but I’m an entrepreneur by nature,” says Glen Josselsohn. Mentored by his mother, artist Gail Josselsohn, Glen enjoyed painting from an early age. Since then, the 39 year-old’s career has taken a number of interesting twists. “I’ve worked in IT, recruitment, insurance, and the renovation of high-end residential property,” he explains. “However, when the property market took a tumble, I had to be a lot more proactive. It was important to diversify, and I began to discover new markets for my paintings.”

Art in South Africa

South Africa is home to some of the most ancient and beautiful art in the world – the rock art of the ancestors of today’s Bushman or San. It is also the scene of a host of diverse and challenging contemporary artists producing important new work. A locally rooted art During the colonial era, what artists there were in South Africa tended to concentrate on depicting this “new world” in detail as accurate as they could make it – though sometimes this led to selective emphasis. Artists such as Thomas Baines travelled the country recording its flora, fauna, people and landscapes – a form of reporting for people back in the metropolis.

Glen Josselsohn Interior Modern Art in Habitat Magazine

Distinctively contemporary in his work, artist Glen Josselsohn has appeared previously in Habitat. His art’s signature style offers a vibrant solution in complementing modern interior design. The character of an interior has, for several centuries and across cultures worldwide, been individualised and defined by the kind of art that they accommodate,’ says Josselsohn, ‘if the décor dresses a room then the paintings give it its attitude, with which those who get dressed, or not, become more interactive.’

History of Stolen, Lost, and Destroyed Works of Art – Ancient Art

A work of art that’s been stolen attains a tantalizing aura of mystery, a legendary status that grows with each hour of absence. A destroyed or a lost work of art can sometimes attain that level of mythos, as long as we are aware of its significance before it’s disappeared. But most art, in fact, most of the art that has ever been made throughout history, is simply lost and forgotten, and we don’t even realize it. Ancient art that was intended to last for eternity is slowly eroding, and contemporary artists now incorporate ephemerality into their works in acceptance of the fact that nothing lasts forever…

The Promise of the Image

Every product suggests itself first as an imagistic extension of one’s body and mind: consuming, being clothed, experiencing a situation, being enhanced, or encountering pleasure. Even an ergonomically designed shampoo bottle is the anthropomorphic picture of an imagined hand. Critical viewers typically regard such representations with conscious skepticism and probably as often with unconscious approval. “The Pathos of Things,” at Carriage Trade, puts such contradictions under scrutiny. The show is studious about the portrayal of objects as images, eschewing spectacle and focusing on the way that viewers absorb products first as visual promises.

Glen Josselsohn leading South African Contemporary Artist

”Distinctively contemporary in his work, artist Glen Josselsohn’s signature art style offers the perfect solution to complement a modern and chic room design There’s nothing quite like art to give a room a character of its own. If the décor is the room’s attire, the paintings on the walls are definitely its attitude! If there was ever a good example of this analogy, it’s the work of contemporary artist, Glen Josselsohn. Not only does his art buzz with energy and movement, but it opens up the imagination, engages the senses and ignites a sense of curiosity within the viewer. What really is going on between those lines and squiggles, those figures leaping off the canvas?

Tate Director Chris Dercon: ‘Everything Can Be Changed’

A photocopied postcard from artist Richard Tuttle hangs on Tate Modern director Chris Dercon’s wall, instructing him to “mix the drawings around the room” just before a 1981 gallery show he was organizing. Although maddening at the time, Tuttle’s message was to become Dercon’s motto: “Once the order has been found, everything can be changed around.”

What Do We Owe Picasso?

There is no shortage of Pablo Picasso exhibitions in our world right now – a good half-dozen major shows have opened and closed across the U.S. in the past three years, exploring everything from Picasso’s relationship with women to his relationship with other artists. Now, the Art Institute of Chicago has opened their own exhibition, “Picasso and Chicago,” adding Picasso’s relationships with cities to that list.
